Video Insight Support | Video Server FAQ's

Video Server Installation has two basic steps - installing the interface card and loading the software. The following are common questions we receive about installation issues. If you have any other issues, please contact technical support.

Common Support Questions:

How do I install the Video Insight PCI capture card?

The Video Insight PCI card is used to convert the analog signal received from the cameras to a digital signal that the system can use to store or display. Follow these steps to install the card:

  1. Power off the PC
  2. Seat the Video Insight capture card in a PCI expansion slot. (If using the V240, install the cooling fan in the slot next to the card.)

The small red and black cable wrapped around the card is a hardware reset cable. If the software detects that the system has hung, it will send a reboot command to the PC. We do not recommend installing this unless your system is experiencing issues that are requiring reboots.

How do I install the capture card driver?

When windows boots up, it will bring up a "Found New Hardware" window:

  1. Insert the Video Insight CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
  2. At the found new hardware window check "No, not this time" and then click "Next"
  3. Check Install from a list or specific location (advanced), then click "Next"
  4. Click "Browse" and point it to the folder "DriversVJseries" or "DriversVNseries" depending on your capture card.
  5. The VJ series will need to have this done just once, the VN series will have either 4, 8, or 16 drivers depending on which card it is (the VN60 is 4 drivers, the VN120 is 8 and the VN240 is 16 drivers)
Why am I getting the error "Card Not Found"?

After you double click on the Video Insight Server icon, you get the message "Card Not Found". This will happen if you have installed the software on the system before you have loaded the Video Insight Capture Card or the drivers have not been loaded. Please read the instructions for installing drivers for more information

  2. From the zip file, run the "vi_Update.bat" file found in the Video Insight folder within the SQL setup folder. You may also run the "Rebair.bat" file. The upgrade batch file to keep your old settings, the repair batch file will start you over again from scratch.
  3. From the VideoServer.zip, run the "Setup.MSI" to install the server.
  4. From the WebServer.zip run the "Setup.MSI" to install the web server.

If you find that there are problems with the web client, then the .NET cache may need to be cleared. It is located in C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\Temporary ASP.NET Files\VideoInsight. Just delete the Video Insight folder and it should resolve the issue.

  1. Use the Autorun as described in the Quick Install guide and on this page to Install the Microsoft SQL Sever.
  2. Next, browse our CD and locate the Video Sever subdirectory. Double-click the "setup.exe" file to install the server without the web client.
How do I connect a microphone?

Video Insight uses the microphone port on the PC to record audio. From the Tools, Server, Audio tab you can select which camera to associate the audio. The camera needs to be set in "Record Always".

Are there any known hardware compatibility issues with Video Insight?

Video Insight is compatible with most systems, with some exceptions:

  • Intel Hyper-Threading - Some systems using the V series card experience video distortion with this enabled. The issue goes away by disabling Hyper-Threading or using the VJ series.
  • We have had mixed results with multiple processor boxes with the V series cards. In general, we recommend single processor boxes because they are significantly less expensive and in most cases are not necessary. The VJ series is dual processor compatible.
  • The V series cards are not compatible with many of the Compaq Servers specifically the Compaq Dual Processor XEON Workstation. We recommend the VJ series cards if you use Compaq/HP equipment.
  • We have had reports of incompatibility with the recently released 3.4Ghz P4 using the Intel 915 Chipset using the V series cards. We are working on a resolution and would be interested in hearing what issues you encountered if you used the 915 Chipset. The VJ series is compatible with Intel 915 chipset and have seen no issues.
How come nothing happens when I insert the Video Insight CD?

Open the Video Insight CD with Windows Explorer and go to the Autorun subdirectory. Double click on the Autorun.exe file. The installation box will appear.

How come the SQL setup starts but does not finish installing?

This part of the setup sometimes takes a few minutes, please be patient.

Why does the Video Server setup fail with a message that it can not find http://videoinsight...?

This usually means you have not loaded IIS (Internet Information Server) prior to loading Video Insight.
