Video Insight Support | IP Server FAQ's

The Video Insight IP Server allows you to mix analog and IP cameras on the same system. IP cameras provide flexibility because they can be plugged directly into your existing Ethernet network. For example, lets assume you have 12 cameras in one facility that are analog cameras all connecting to a single point with coax. But you also have another location across the campus that is not convenient to install coax but already has exiting Ethernet network connections. By using the IP Server, you can add the IP camera and the IP Server will capture the stream and store the video in the manner the Video Server stores analog cameras.

To view the live or recorded IP camera video, use the Network Client which allows you to view IP and Analog cameras on the same display.

If you have any other issues, please contact technical support.

Common Support Questions:

How do I view live or recorded video from the IP Server?

The Network Client allows you to view live or recorded video from the IP Server as well as the Analog Server at the same time. Notice the easy to use Left Navigation Tree in the following picture.

Does Anti-Virus software conflict with the IP Server?

In general, Video Insight does have any conflicts with Anti-Virus software. We have had reports of issues affecting the server when virus updates are applied but we have found nothing specific.

How do I repair a corrupt file?

The AVI file format used by Video Insight can be played with any Windows Media Player. To Export a file, right mouse click on the file from the left navigation tree and select "Save As".

How do I burn a CD/ DVD?

Video Insight stores its files in a standard AVI format with the camera name, date and time stored on the file. The file format is compatible with any Windows Media player. Video Insight files can be distributed without the requirement of a special viewer or any conversion. If you need to archive or transfer a file to a CD-RW:

  1. Right mouse click on the file and select "Save As"
  2. Select the CD/ DVD drive
  3. You will notice a new icon in the lower right corner next to the clock that says "Burn to CD"
  4. Click the icon and "Burn the CD"
Can I use the IP server standalone?

Yes, using the IP Server and Network Client, the system can be used without any Analog cameras.

How many cameras will the IP server support?

That really depends on the number of images per second each camera is recording and the type of recording. Server based, motion recording is more processor intensive than recording every frame. In general a 3.2Ghz Pentium with record around 300 fps across any number of cameras.

What if my camera is not in the supported hardware list?

If you can give us an IP addresses so we can connect to the camera, we should be able to add support for your IP camera.

Do I need a separate video server to connect analog cameras?

No. By utilizing the Video Insight Server, you can connect your Analog cameras directly to the PC. Combine the analog with the IP to form a integrated solution.

Will the IP Server work with a proxy server?

No. If you are using Windows and have a proxy server configured, the IP Server will not be able to see the IP Cameras.
